Sindelar is a health economist and professor of public health. She is an expert on the economics of substance abuse including alcoholism, illicit drugs and smoking. Her studies include lost productivity, cost-effectiveness of treatments, social costs, and policy. She has published on the impacts of substance abuse on productivity, educational attainment, gender differences, and related policy issues in economics, policy, addiction, health, and medical journals.
