AmeriCorps VISTA Opportunities with the Veterans Recovery Project of CT (VRPCT)
Hello, Dwight Hall seniors!
My name is James Cunningham and I serve as AmeriCorps VISTA Leader with the Veterans Recovery Project of CT (VRPCT). We’re a growing partnership of organizations in the New Haven and Bridgeport areas. The agencies we serve as VISTAs (Volunteers in Service to America) empower veterans overcoming mental and physical health challenges; legal challenges; unemployment; and homelessness.
Our project is looking to fill six VISTA positions by April 25th. Please apply as soon as possible if you are interested. IF AND ONLY IF you have served as a VISTA for at least one year, I encourage you to consider our VISTA Leader position as well.
Career and Life Skills VISTA
Community Volunteer-Companion VISTA
Employment Outreach VISTA
Habitat Outreach and Housing VISTA
Legal Outreach VISTA
Mental Health Outreach VISTA
All these positions require a resume and cover letter in addition to applying through these links. If you are interested in the Mental Health Outreach or Habitat Outreach and Housing position, please send your resume and cover letter to me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
VISTAs serve for one year and receive a modest living allowance. For VISTAs serving in New Haven County, the stipend is about $500 every two weeks; for VISTAs serving in Fairfield County, the stipend is about $600 every two weeks. Housing is included for the Habitat Outreach and Housing position, which is based out of Bridgeport (in Fairfield County). The rest are in New Haven. At the end of service, VISTAs may choose to receive either a $5,645 education award—which can be used for further education or to pay down existing school loans—or a $1,500 direct-deposit stipend. VISTAs may not hold outside employment while serving as VISTAs.
Please feel free to get in touch with me if you have any questions about these positions or ideas on how we might collaborate!
