MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán) de Yale

Mission:

Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztlán (MEChA) de Yale, established in 1969, is an organization of Chicanos of different ethnic backgrounds who have come together in pursuit of social justice, community empowerment and cultural awareness.

MEChA de Yale promotes and supports the pursuit of education as a means to achieve self-empowerment. Our social and political activism is a direct response to the problems that affect the Chicano/Latino population locally, nationally and globally.

Summary of Activities:

This semester we are planning to have several dinner discussions open to the Yale community to discuss social issues such as machismo in Latino communities and education in lower income neighborhoods. These dinner discussions will also serve the purpose of being fundraisers for our Sueños scholarship. In addition, we will be having group sessions for our mentorship program, Conexiones. We will also co-host awareness events with ULA and the Yale Democrats.
