Networks
Dwight Hall features many networks for action.
The Education Network is an umbrella encompassing all Dwight Hall groups that work with youth. It promotes discussion and communication between the groups and provides support for them. It also sponsors events and speakers for students interested in educational issues. The Education Network administers the Suzanne Jovin Education Resource Room (located on the first floor in corner room by Front office.) It contains books, games, and computers available for use with children, as well as information on student groups, curriculum ideas, and information about New Haven for volunteers, mentors, and coordinators.
The Social Justice Network (SJN) of Dwight Hall at Yale is a coalition of organizations and individuals working for social justice and social change at Yale, in New Haven, and beyond. SJN is dedicated to building a community among those who identify themselves as working for social justice, while helping activists develop skills necessary to achieve this change. SJN is a resource center, providing the space for dialogue and cooperation, creating and maintaining links to other organizations. SJN works to keep activism alive and well at Yale, serving as an informal clearinghouse of activist groups, preserving and passing on the tools and knowledge of effective organizing from one graduating class to the next.
In its essence, the PHC is a broad network within the Yale community—and beyond—of people who strive to affect positive change in fields relating to public health. This includes groups committed to advocacy surrounding a specific issue, condition or disease; cultural groups; service organizations; individuals who want to learn about how health issues interface with their own goals; anyone with an interest in public health. The mission of the Public Health Coalition is to promote public health awareness, education and service in the Yale and New Haven communities. General membership in PHC is open to all members of the Yale community. The PHC Board is a group of roughly a dozen students responsible for implementing the functions of the Coalition and encouraging collaboration between member groups.
