<p class="x_MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10pt;">The Coop Center for Creativity Afterschool Program is designed to give Coop High School students in grades 9-12 training from professional artists in various disciplines such as visual arts, graphic design and writing/publishing.<span>  </span>The program will accept ten to twelve students in each discipline and will run from late March to late June 2010.</span></p>

<p class="x_MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10pt;"><b><u>Graphic Design Teaching Assistant / General Purpose:</u></b></span></p>
<p class="x_MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:10pt;">The Graphic Design Teaching Assistant will support the Graphic Design Teacher in executing an afterschool graphic design class on Tuesdays and Thursdays 2:30  5:30 pm starting March 30 and lasting 12 weeks.<span>  </span>The TA will support the Teacher from 2:30  4:00 pm and will be expected to conduct class independently from 4:00  5:30 pm.<span>  </span>It is preferred that the TA focuses on <u>teaching the fundamentals of typography</u> during this 1.5 hr portion of each class.<span>  </span><span> </span></span></p>

<p>      <font size="3" face="Helvetica">Vietnam  is a country of rich culture whose history has been overshadowed by  its years of conflict. Since the controversial war, the people of Vietnam  have pushed forward, retaining much of their old traditions while also  bringing themselves up to speed with the rest of the world.  The  present Viet Nam is a striking juxtaposition of the old agrarian ways  of the countryside and the booming economies that define the major cities.   Presently, Vietnam boasts one of the fastest growing economies in Asia.  Despite its open borders and markets, Vietnam still remains plagued  by several issues in public health, human rights, and social development.   Despite such issues, the Vietnamese people are optimistic in their approach  to life and are determined to enhance their lives and country. </font></p>
<p>      <font size="3" face="Helvetica">Thousands  of tourists travel to Viet Nam every year to see the ancient ruins of  the Champa Kingdom, remark at the different cultural influences on Vietnamese  architecture, relax at Viet Nams numerous beaches, or to take part  in Sai Gons bustling night life. Few, however, witness the story  of Viet Nam untold by history books, travel guides, and tour guides.   The goal of <b>Reach Out: Hello, Vietnam! </b> is to provide an introduction to the prevalent issues in Vietnam by  personal interactions, establishing friendships with locals, and cross-cultural </font></p>

            <title>English Conversation Partners at the OISS</title>

            <description><![CDATA[<p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">One-on-One Conversations is sponsored by the Office of International Students and Scholars at Yale. The program matches international students, scholars and their spouses/partners with volunteers from the New Haven and Yale communities for language and culture exchange. The time commitment is minimal and for the participants of this program the possible benefits include:</span></p>
<ul><li><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Sharing your  culture with others</span></li>
    <li><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Expanding your understanding of people, the world and cross-cultural communication</span></li>
    <li><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Practicing teaching skills</span></li>
    <li><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Offering friendship across cultures </span></li>
    <li><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Language exchange: practice a second language with a native speaker</span></li>
</ul><p><span style="font-family:Verdana;">Meetings are scheduled for one hour per week at any mutually agreed upon on or off campus location. Minimum commitment is four weeks, with the aim to continue for at least one semester (12 weeks). The topic and format of the meetings is up to the participants. Most often, participants engage in informal conversation; however guidelines and suggestions for topics if desired are available through the OISS. Meetings are usually conducted in English and no knowledge of a second language is required or even necessary.</span></p>

            <description><![CDATA[<p>Dear Dwight Hall Residents,</p>
<p>Haven Free Clinic is student-run organization that provides free health care to patients in New Haven, most of whom are Spanish-speaking.    </p>
<p>We are in search of Spanish-speaking volunteers to help with the clinic during the Fall  9/26/09- 12/19/09. We need volunteers with different degrees of Spanish fluency to interact and/or interpret for our patients. The clinic would serve as an excellent exposure for students interested in medicine and service in underprivileged neighborhoods.    </p>
<p>This Fall Haven Free Clinic will operate every Saturday morning. We provide training for the different volunteer posts and rides to and from the clinic. We are looking for students who can volunteer once or more times during the Fall.</p>

            <title>Volunteer at a Summer Camp for Kids with Chronic Illnesses</title>

            <description><![CDATA[<p>Camp Carefree is a free summer camp in North Carolina that gives kids with chronic illnesses a chance to have the outdoorsy summer camp experience, including horseback riding, archery, fishing, swimming, etc.  The camp is operated on a not-for-profit basis, employs an all-volunteer staff, and is set on hundreds of acres of donated farmland outside of Greensboro.  There are week-long camp sessions for kids with Spina Bifida, Cancer, Epilepsy and other Neurological disorders, Hemophilia &amp; Turner Syndrome, Siblings of chronically ill children, and children of chronically ill parents.  Applying for this summer may still be possible, depending on your week of interest, and is definitely possible for next summer.  Please contact Adam Green (Adam.Green@Yale.edu) for information and applications.</p>]]></description>

<p class="MsoNormal"><span>            </span>A colorful and far from homogeneous group of Yale Alumni, their families and friends as well as current students gathered in Monterrey this week to contribute their time and knowledge to make a change in Monterrey.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>            </span>Our beautiful service trip started in a beautiful, one could say isolated, place out of the city of Monterrey. We were fortunate enough to enjoy the natural surroundings and the hospitality of the facilities of the <u>Chipinque National Park</u>, a beautiful mountainous area that overlooks the vast city of Monterrey. On Chipinque, there is a very convenient conference center that served as the setting of the service teams teambuilding. Several speeches were offered to set the setting of the trip mission and the expectations of the participants as well as a round of introductions by the participants that meant to be very insightful of the diversity and the humanitarian motives of the whole group.</p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><u>The speeches</u></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span>            </span>AYAs President, Mark Dollhopf, lead the orientation workshop and began by presenting the present of AYA. The Service Trip in 2008 in Dominican Republic being successful, gave rise to a new trip this year in Monterrey and gave more leeway to AYA and to Mark Dollhopf to envisage a new dimension of AYA and an alternative way of connecting alumni through philanthropy. Overall, according to Mr. Dollhopf AYAs new direction will be to connect alumni according their location, their vocation as well as their interests. Mr. Dollhopf made note of plans to connect the alumni of the 300+ Yale undergraduate organizations which have contributed through the years in the activities of the institution. Last year's tour to the Dominican Republic was a phenomenal experience- a truly unique collaboration between Yale and the world. I am extremely excited to meet the alumni from last year as well as make new friends in Monterrey in a mutual effort to aid a community in extreme need.</p>]]></description>

<h4 style="font-size:150%;"><i></i></h4><center>Writing a Proposal</center><p></p><h4 style="font-size:100%;"><font color="#ffffff">The application for the Dwight Hall Summer Fellowship Program is modeled on a typical grant application.  To request the $3,000 in funding for your project, you must put together a proposal that clearly explains what you aim to accomplish, you you will be collaborating with, and you must put your proposal into a larger context.  The strength of a proposal is the primary factor in the selection process.  Before you write your proposal, clearly establish goals with your sponsoring agency.  The staff at Dwight Hall is happy to help with the writing of proposals and can share past project proposals with you. </font></h4></td></tr></table></center>
