She has played a key role in securing long-overdue recognition for the 6888th Central Postal Directory Battalion—the first all-Black\, all-woman unit deployed overseas in World War II— including advocacy that led to the battalion’s 2022 Congressional Gold Medal and work on the film The Six Triple Eight. The first African American woman commissioned through Appalachian State University’s ROTC program\, Col. Cummings served 25 years in the military with leadership roles at Georgetown University ROTC\, the Pentagon\, and U.S. NORAD/NORTHCOM. She currently serves as the Army Reserve Ambassador for Maryland.

Grounded in the SelebeYoon healing-centered paradigm\, this keynote centers Rasikh—rootedness—as a guide for healing\, ethical leadership\, and community well-being.Drawing from Black Muslim psychology\, faith\, memory work\, archival justice\, and the enduring legacies of Malcolm X and Dr. Betty Shabazz\, Dr. Oseguera invites us to consider what it means to remain rooted amid struggle\, transition\, and transformation. This lecture is an invitation to reflect together on what we carry forward—ancestral wisdom\, moral clarity\, and responsibility—and how those inheritances shape more just\, whole\, and hopeful futures for our communities.Respondents will offer reflections and be in discussion with Dr. Oseguera following the lecture. \n\n\n\nSpeaker Bio: Dr. Kameelah Mu’Min Oseguera is the Founding Executive Director of Muslim Wellness Foundation (MWF)\, a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting healing and emotional well-being in American Muslim communities through dialogue\, education and training. Through Muslim Wellness Foundation\, Dr. Mu’Min Oseguera has established the Omar ibn Said Institute for Black Muslim Studies & Research\, the annual Black Muslim Psychology Conference and the Deeply Rooted Emerging Leaders Fellowship for Black Muslim young adults. \n\n\n\nDr. Mu’Min Oseguera is an Assistant Professor in Psychology and Muslim Studies at Chicago Theological Seminary (CTS) and CTS’ Project Director for the ASPIRE Project: Engaging Diverse Faith Communities in Anti-Racist Work. Her teaching\, research and clinical areas of expertise include: healing justice and faith based activism\, racial trauma and healing\, psychological impact of anti-Muslim bigotry and anti-Blackness\, Black Muslim psychology and Black Muslim intersectional invisibility. \n\n\n\nDr. Mu’Min Oseguera graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with a BA in Psychology and MEd in Psychological Services. She pursued further graduate education\, completing a second Masters in Restorative Practices & Youth Counseling (MRP) from the International Institute for Restorative Practices. DESCRIPTION:Register here! \n\n\n\nGillo Pontecorvo’s The Battle of Algiers (1966) — a poetic and unflinching portrait of Algerian resistance to French colonial occupation — is widely considered one of the greatest films ever made. \n\n\n\nJoin us for a screening and conversation exploring the legacy of this landmark film on its 60th Anniversary\, and the extraordinary influence it has had across the political spectrum: from the Black Panther Party and the Palestine Liberation Organization to right-wing military juntas and occupying armies\, including the U.S. Pentagon in the so-called “War on Terror.” \n\n\n\nSixty years after its release\, the film is more relevant and urgent than ever\, as the West seeks to maintain its dominance of the global order. In exploring the history and afterlives of The Battle of Algiers\, this conversation will reveal a larger global story of hope and rebellion — and show that far more than an artifact of the past\, the film is a prophetic testament to the present and a cautionary tale of an imperial future\, as perpetual war has been declared on permanent unrest.

Despite death threats and constant government surveillance\, Malcolm X fearlessly advocated for the rights of the “wretched of the earth\,” connecting the struggles of Black communities in the United States with the global plight of colonized peoples. \n\n\n\nIt is therefore not surprising that many have drawn parallels between the assassination of Malcolm X and the martyrdom of Imam Hussein\, who refused to capitulate to the demands of a despotic caliph. In this lecture\, Dr. Siwaju proposes that Malcolm X articulated a revolutionary cosmopolitics that reflects the Husseini ethos of enjoining good and forbidding evil\, and of sacrifice in the service of truth and justice. \n\n\n\nDrawing on her research on Islam in the Colombian Pacific\, she will discuss how Afro-Colombian Shiʿi Muslims revere Malcolm X as a martyr\, placing him within the spiritual lineage of Imam Hussein.

DESCRIPTION:Register here! \n\n\n\nUmi Says is a one-woman show-in-progress that journeys through stories of Black Muslim womanhood and Black worldmaking through the life of the activist and mother\, Amina Amatul Haqq. Written and performed by Su’ad Abdul Khabeer. Directed by Magda Labonté-Blaise. The performance will be followed by a talkbalk with the writer and director. \n\n\n\nSu’ad Abdul Khabeer\, originally from Brooklyn\, NY\, is an artist-activist-scholar\, curator of Umi’s Archive and author of Muslim Cool. Su’ad is 2025-2026 research fellow at the Yale Institute of Sacred Music. Read more about Su’ad Abdul Khabeer. \n\n\n\nMagda Labonté-Blaise has had the pleasure of  pursuing a career as a director and as an actor in theater and film.  Her most notable credits as an actor include “Cynthia” in The Long Island Theatre Collective’s production of SWEAT by Lynn Nottage; “Mayme” in Eastline Theatre’s production of Intimate Apparel by Lynn Nottage; “Francine/Lena” in the Studio Theatre of Long Island’s production of Clybourne Park by Bruce Norris; and\, “Chris” in Modern Theatre Classics production of POTUS by Selina Filinger.  Magda made her directorial debut in September of 2022 with  “Pipeline” by Dominique Morisseau and also directed Blood at the Root\, another award winning play by Dominique Morisseau\, in February of 2024.  Currently\, she is directing 2 short plays with Argonaut\, a women owned film and theater collective\, for their one-act play festival to be held in May of 2026.   \n\n\n\nShe is brimming with excitement to work with Su’ad Abdul-Khabeer and the Yale Institute of Sacred Music on this incredible project.  There are no words to express the extent of her gratitude for being a part of this extraordinary experience.
