DESCRIPTION:The YHHAP Fast is the largest student-run fundraiser on Yale’s campus. Once every semester over 25% of Yale’s student body donates their Yale Dining meal swipes for the day of the Fast. Join Tsai CITY\, Dwight Hall\, and KNOWNPRENEURS for an interactive workshop where you’ll explore funding models\, tailor your pitch\, and develop your donor network.   \n\n\n\nEvery fundraising strategy\, just like every organization\, is unique. We will ensure that each participant knows how to tailor their approach based on their organization’s mission and objectives. We will also focus on funding models beyond traditional philanthropy and grant writing\, including crowd-funding\, social impact investments\, and partnership support. The goal is for each participant to leave with a clear next step on how they can meet their fundraising goals and create a strategy that will work for them.  \n\n\n\nAbout the speaker\, Etana\n\n\n\nEtana Solomon is a social impact strategist who is dedicated to creating more equitable and sustainable social change. She leads her own firm focused on developing impact ecosystems that leverage donor networks\, private and public sector assets\, and mission-driven organizations to create lasting impact. \n\n\n\nBefore starting her own firm\, Etana spent most of her career at Mastercard. She held multiple positions at the company\, which included supporting Mastercard’s philanthropic arm – the Center for Inclusive Growth (CFIG). While at CFIG\, Etana managed the Business Unit Charitable Support program that deployed millions of dollars in donations to organizations across the world. She also supported the North America Social Impact team through project management\, grant support\, and metric tracking for key initiatives related to small business\, racial equity\, and government engagement. \n\n\n\nEtana is from New Haven\, CT\, where she currently resides. Each weekday morning\, the Cafe welcomes guests to the undercroft of St. Paul and St. James\, near Wooster Square and three blocks south of the New Haven Green with white tablecloths\, flowers and a rotating menu of fresh\, warm\, nutritious home-cooked food. Your generosity opens our doors. \n\n\n\nCheerful volunteers take each order individually\, deliver the breakfast to our guest and help our paid chef in the kitchen. Thelma Ragsdale\, Operations Manager\, and our volunteers ensure every guest is warmly welcomed. \n\n\n\nSunrise Cafe is uniquely welcoming and secure\, based on trust and mutual respect\, and the rapport built between the volunteer servers and our guests. With a warm welcome and just two rules – no drugs on the premises and no arguments – Sunrise has become a community center for the homeless\, a place to come every weekday morning and gather with friends. \n\n\n\nHungry friends come for the home-cooked\, nourishing breakfast and stay for simple medical services offered by the Cornell Scott Health Center and access to support from social services to find housing. \n\n\n\nSunrise provides a unique opportunity to bridge New Haven’s inequalities that separate us from one another. Volunteers will meet in front of Dwight Hall at 6:00am\, walk together to Sunrise Cafe\, and will return to campus by 9:00am. \n\n\n\nVolunteers are strongly encouraged to wear N95 masks during service. \n\n\n\nSunrise Cafe has been serving breakfast without charge to New Haven’s homeless and hungry since 2015. Each weekday morning\, the Cafe welcomes guests to the undercroft of St. Paul and St. James\, near Wooster Square and three blocks south of the New Haven Green with white tablecloths\, flowers and a rotating menu of fresh\, warm\, nutritious home-cooked food. Your generosity opens our doors. \n\n\n\nCheerful volunteers take each order individually\, deliver the breakfast to our guest and help our paid chef in the kitchen. Thelma Ragsdale\, Operations Manager\, and our volunteers ensure every guest is warmly welcomed. \n\n\n\nSunrise Cafe is uniquely welcoming and secure\, based on trust and mutual respect\, and the rapport built between the volunteer servers and our guests. With a warm welcome and just two rules – no drugs on the premises and no arguments – Sunrise has become a community center for the homeless\, a place to come every weekday morning and gather with friends. \n\n\n\nHungry friends come for the home-cooked\, nourishing breakfast and stay for simple medical services offered by the Cornell Scott Health Center and access to support from social services to find housing. \n\n\n\nSunrise provides a unique opportunity to bridge New Haven’s inequalities that separate us from one another. Volunteers come once and become regulars. Guests and volunteers become friends and greet one another on the street.

What would they change? Gain invaluable insights on the skills and opportunities you should pursue during your time at Yale and beyond\, all in preparation for careers in public service and social justice. \n\n\n\nLearn more about the panelists below:  \n\n\n\n\nJanah Ncube is Deputy Chief Executive Officer at Crisis Action\, a global organization working on the protection of civilians in conflict. Previously Janah was the Pan Africa Director at Oxfam. Her work as a global development strategist has informed systems and structural changes to multilateral institutions such as SADC\, AU\, AfDB and the UN on regional integration\, governance\, gender\, peace and security\, and has saved lives in the over 15 crisis situations across the world she has worked on. A stubborn optimist\, she has tracked the UNFCCC process since 2009 as a trusted witness\, passionate advocate\, creative expert\, and multi-talented practitioner. She offers extensive expertise on global climate governance and policy\, nature-based solutions\, strategic communication\, and multi-stakeholder cooperation between actors from different sectors and institutions. Binbin co-founded a local think tank to conduct national surveys investigating the public’s perception of the climate\, the key findings of which were picked up by China’s National White Paper and the UNFCCC. An award-winning women’s and girls’ rights activist\, she has championed controversial issues globally. She launched Susue Women’s Finance during the COVID-19 pandemic to influence government policy on women’s business and access to finance. Ben owes every job he’s landed to his friends\, mentors\, and colleagues — including stints in advertising\, speechwriting\, and as a Hill staffer. For the past ten years\, Ben has worked as a federal lobbyist for the Motion Picture Association (MPA) — the trade association for the major film and television studios. This hybrid session will be tailored to students interested in public service\, politics\, and social impact careers but is open to all. \n\n\n\nThis event is jointly sponsored by Yale’s Office of Career Strategy and Dwight Hall at Yale. Those who RSVP for the virtual component will be sent a Zoom link on the day of the event.

DESCRIPTION:Eager to play a part in addressing climate change but don’t know where to start?  \n\n\n\nBroaden your understanding of climate entrepreneurship and innovation through the 5-week ‘Climate Innovation Intensive.’ Tsai CITY and CBEY is excited to offer the second iteration of the intensive that will bring together startups\, investors\, and other partners through a cohort-based program. With interactive workshops and candid conversations with entrepreneurs\, the intensive will essentially provide a handbook on climate innovation. Learn how to identify venture ideas from myriad planetary problems we face\, the fundamentals of climate entrepreneurship and what it means to scale ClimateTech. We will be exploring innovations that span circular economy\, deeptech\, and platform solutions. We’ve partnered with Connecticut Innovations and Climate Haven to provide access to some incredible networking opportunities as well! Robyn Acampora from OCS will share a variety of tools to help you find alumni and offer advice on how to engage with them\, from sending the initial email request\, planning talking points for an informational call\, and how to continue the relationship beyond that first call. \n\n\n\nStudents are encouraged (but definitely not required) to bring lists of employers they are interested to work on finding contacts during this working group session. Attendees can expect to leave this workshop with a specific plan of how to find the alums at organizations they are interested in and what the next steps involve. \n\n\n\nThe event will take place in Dwight Hall’s SJN Room (Room 211). This is a family oriented event\, with youth activities will include a Bouncy House\, Pumpkin Carving\, Face Painting\, Bean Bag Toss\, Leaf Stamps\, Popsicle stick Peeps\, One fish two fish\, red fish blue fish\, Killdeer & Coyote\, Capture the Flag\, Heads up! (Marine Ecology version). We are happy to announce that we will be hosting two food trucks at this year’s event\, Taco Flores and Taste of Puerto Rico.
