SUMMARY:Dwight Hall Community Hour
DESCRIPTION:Students and New Haven Community Members are welcome to join Dwight Hall’s staff in the Dwight Hall Library for a Friday “Community Hour.” Enjoy Fall-themed refreshments (and possibly Halloween candy) while meeting other leaders at Dwight Hall and in the community. \n\n\n\nJames Jeter\, Dwight Hall’s Director of Civic Allyship will be our featured staff guest this week. We will have some brief guided conversation around the transformative potential of civic allyship and how students can develop skills for deep partnership with community leaders. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nAbout the Dwight Hall Civic Allyship:Dwight Hall’s Civic Allyship Initiative is elevating the existing work of community organizers in New Haven and beyond. The program confronts complex social challenges\, convening criminal justice advocates\, grassroots activists\, currently and formerly incarcerated people\, students\, and professors in equitable relationships through workshops\, trainings\, and research. Together\, these allies are utilizing new grassroots organizing strategies\, developing opportunities for underrepresented populations in civic leadership\, and laying the groundwork for substantive policy reforms.

SUMMARY:The Hijrah Walk: Retracing the Prophetic Footsteps from Makkah to Medina with Dr. Bilal Hassam (Founder\, The Muslim Agency\, UK/South Africa)
DESCRIPTION:HQ 136 320 York Street [Adeni Chai and Sweets will be served]  \n\n\n\nThe migration of the Prophet Muhammad from Makkah to Medina is one of the most iconic spiritual journeys in sacred history. With the aid of historians\, geographers and intrepid adventurers\, the exact route of that migration has now been plotted and replicated.  \n\n\n\nDr. Bilal Hasaam\, along with 12 others\, recreated the journey earlier this year. We delve into history and witness the legacy of the Prophet’s momentous migration brought to life through film and discussion. Following in the exact footsteps of the Prophet Muhammad on the migration route from Makkah to Medina\, they visited the same landmarks and locations\, mirroring the Prophet’s journey 1\,400 years ago. \n\n\n\nExperience the culmination of this remarkable expedition with the US premiere of the trip documentary followed by a captivating presentation and conversation with Dr. Hassam. \n\n\n\nPresented by the Muslim Leadership Lab at Dwight Hall and the Muslim Life Program at the Yale Chaplain’s Office.

SUMMARY:Hear Your Song's 10th Anniversary Symposium & Concert w/ the Yale Glee Club
DESCRIPTION:Reserve tickets here! \n\n\n\nHear Your Song and the Yale Glee Club are thrilled to co-present \n\n\n\nHEAR YOUR SONG’S 10TH ANNIVERSARY SYMPOSIUM & CONCERT \n\n\n\nfeaturing \n\n\n\nMembers of the Yale Glee ClubMembers of Hear Your Song’s Yale College chapterYouth songwriters in the Hear Your Song communityYale College alumni \n\n\n\nMEET HEAR YOUR SONG \n\n\n\nHear Your Song is a Yale-founded 501(c)(3) nonprofit that empowers children and teens with serious illnesses and complex health needs\, both physical and mental health diagnoses\, to make their voices heard through collaborative songwriting. Ten years\, after Hear Your Song got its start as a student organization\, join us to celebrate the more than 500 youth songwriters who have brought their songs to life through this community. Join founding alumni\, the current Yale undergraduate chapter\, members of the Yale Glee Club\, and some of the youth songwriters themselves for an afternoon of music\, conversation\, and food! \n\n\n\nHOW DID HEAR YOUR SONG BEGIN? \n\n\n\nOne night in May 2014\, a group of friends at Yale University crowded into a tiny studio to record a few songs: “The Cow Dances With Her Arms\,” “A Warm Place\,” and “Simba And I Are Not Friends (Just Kidding!).” These songs\, with lyrics by Maria\, Melissa\, and Justice\, pediatric residents at Elizabeth Seton Children’s in Yonkers\, NY\, marked the beginning of Hear Your Song’s adventures. \n\n\n\nDan Rubins and Rebecca Brudner co-founded Hear Your Song as a student organization when they were sophomores at Yale University. Hear Your Song’s first partnerships were with Elizabeth Seton Children’s in Yonkers\, NY and Yale-New Haven Children’s Hospital. \n\n\n\nIn March 2020\, in response to the COVID-19 global pandemic\, Dan and Rebecca recognized that sick and immunocompromised kids needed a platform to share their stories and make their voices heard more than ever. That spring and summer\, Hear Your Song began its national expansion\, launching a virtual program model and building new campus-based chapters and partnerships. \n\n\n\nHear Your Song has now recorded well over 500 songs written by youth songwriters ages 6-18 across the country and around the world. In their songs\, youth songwriters write about anything they want to share\, from loving pasta to living with epilepsy.
