Our Mission:

This organization’s mission is two-fold. This organization is intended to provide members of the surrounding New Haven community with an otherwise non existent opportunity, due to a physical, intellectual, or developmental disability, to express themselves through dance. The environment provided is intended to be relaxing and fun. The dancers attending the rehearsals will have the option of dancing without the constraints of a specific style of dance. Additionally, this organization intends to provide members of the Yale community with an opportunity to be exposed to people who overcome their respective disabilities.

Our Activities:

Miracle League Dance Direct Service Miracle League Dance at Yale is an organization based around a twofold mission. First and foremost, the organization’s goal is to provide children residing in New Haven and surrounding communities with an opportunity to express themselves through dance that is otherwise limited or nonexistent due to any physical, developmental, or intellectual disability or other special need which may limit the child’s involvement in a traditional dance class. For these children, we aim to create a fun and relaxing environment in which we will teach an adaptive style of dance, mixed with games and adapted to fit their individual interests and abilities. Miracle League Dance at Yale exists through a partnership with The Miracle League of Connecticut, and the program is modeled after similar programs which The Miracle League of Connecticut hosted in West Hartford and East Lyme in 2018 and 2019. Secondly, we aim to involve current Yale students with an opportunity to work closely with the children participating in the program, which may stretch their comfort zone and expose them to people quite different from themselves. We hope to foster supportive relationships between the children and Yale students who will get to know each other over the course of the program and aim to create a meaningful experience for both the children and the Yale students involved.
