VAW Group Picture in Peru

Dwight Hall Member Group Volunteers Around the World is a humanitarian outreach non-governmental organization with operations in six countries. The non-profit operates free, mobile medical clinics in underserved areas of the developing world, working with local doctors and staff to provide health, education, and dignity to populations that are left behind by their own countries. The Yale chapter of VAW has been in existence since 2014, and this year it returned to work in Cusco, Perú. Yale’s chapter is particularly dedicated to global health, conscientious service, and sustainability. The trip was overall an unmitigated success. Together with the local staff, the Yale team of 20 undergraduates – from a mixture of class years and areas of study – provided medical and dental care to over 400 patients. The trip provided valuable experience for the undergraduates who took part in it, but most importantly, VAW helped to educate rural Peruvians about their right to healthcare and provided such care where otherwise it would not exist.
