Frailty Myths, a non-profit based in Oakland, California, is bringing its community
workshops to NEW HAVEN, CT, hosting a free self-reliance workshop for women, trans, and
gender-nonconforming communities. This is an incredible opportunity to see how communities
are coming together and fighting back in a year of unprecedented attacks against marginalized
communities, opening a space to challenge toxic masculinity and learn woodworking,
construction, and self-reliance skills to literally build a new world.
From woodworking, sailing, rope access climbing, and other self-reliance skills, each Frailty
Myths workshop asks a powerful question:
Can you change the world by building a new one?
Curating a conversation around racism, sexism, homophobia, transphobia, and inequality
creates a space where these women, trans, and gender nonconforming participants, Frailty
Myths is building transformative communities across the United States.
Frailty Myths was co-founded by Yale School of Management grad Georgia Faye Hirsty (Class
of ‘22). As a Yale grad, Georgia’s excited to bring Frailty Myths workshops to New Haven and
Connecticut.
Since launching in-person empowerment workshops in 2016, Frailty Myths has hosted
thousands of participants across the United States in curated workshops that educate about
self-reliance skills while also healing from the wounds of racism, sexism, and patriarchy in an
increasingly authoritarian world.
One participant said: “I cannot express enough of my gratitude for offering this
workshop. It was not only fun to make something on my own, but I left feeling
empowered and accomplished. As someone who works in an industry where women are
often competitive…it was inspiring to be in a group of women who were there to support
one another and cheer each other on.”

About Frailty Myths:
Frailty Myths was founded in October 2016 in Oakland, California, by four diverse women
committed to one transformative idea:
To rise from the oppressive myths of “female fragility” and transform the world by
creating a community where women, trans, and gender non-conforming folks can build
the skills and the strength to lead and change the world.
With thousands of participants both through community workshops and corporate “Diversity,
Equity, and Inclusion” training across the United States and around the world, Frailty Myths has
taught a new generation self-reliance skills, including woodworking, climbing, and sailing. Frailty
Myths has created a transformative new community that restores and rejuvenates, all while
guiding toward the mission of changing the world.
Central to this mission is creating a space where we prioritize the healing of women, trans, and
gender non-conforming folks, that are also people of color, queer, and economically
marginalized, from the trauma of the ever-present misogyny that exists in our society.
At Frailty Myths, we know that having a space to be curious and try new things is fundamental
to our growth and, more importantly, to our healing.
