Spring 2022 Magee Fellowship

Summary of Opportunity:

The Spring 2022 Magee Fellowship is a part-time position open to current Yale Graduate and Professional School students. Compensation is $20 per hour for an average of 5 hours per week, not to exceed 75 hours per semester. Magee Fellows are not expected to work during scheduled breaks and the final exam period. The Fellowship term is renewable for the 2022-2023 academic year pending mutual agreement. Dwight Hall seeks to hire up to two (2) Fellows for the Spring term. Applicants graduating in May 2022 are permitted to apply.

The Rev. John G. Magee Fellowship was established in 1987 to maintain the religious roots upon which Dwight Hall was founded. The Fellow, a graduate or professional student at Yale, works closely with the professional staff of Dwight Hall, leaders from the Dwight Hall Student Cabinet and Executive Committee, Dwight Hall’s leadership development programs, and the Yale Chaplain’s Office through Yale Religious Ministries. The Magee Fellow will be expected to work alongside student leaders and staff to promote a culture of action and reflection at Dwight Hall, foster collaborative efforts between various faith-based and secular student organizations, and nurture the skills and well-being of student leaders.

The Magee Fellow will also support the work of the Dwight Hall Student Executive Committee and student groups as it pertains to interfaith outreach and/or graduate/professional student outreach.

The Magee Fellow reports to, and will receive support from, the Director of Community Outreach and Engagement.

Responsibilities and Expectations of the Magee Fellow:

Planning and executing creative forums for the exploration of faith, spirituality, ethics, service, and justice.

Promoting and facilitating dialogue on issues of social justice and community engagement via virtual, in-person, and hybrid formats.
Seeking opportunities for collaboration with the Yale Chaplain’s Office and other Yale partners.
Planning and execution of one workshop or event per semester at Dwight Hall to equip students with skills or inspire students to advance justice and service.
Providing complementary programming as needed for major Dwight Hall events and initiatives.
Hosting reflection sessions with Dwight Hall student leaders on themes such as the role of identity, practice of community engagement, community-building, restorative justice, and healing utilizing a Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion framework.
Nurturing the growth of students as leaders of social change.

Stretch the reach of students at Dwight Hall, by bringing local, national, and/or global issues into conversation with the projects students undertake.
Provide guidance and identify resources to support the work of student volunteers and activists.
Review actions of student member organizations and identify opportunities for further reflection.
Review weekly reflections from Dwight Hall Fellows and offer support or advisement as needed.
Furthering the mission of Dwight Hall through participation in its operations.

Participate in public events and activities, identify external resources and relationships, and participate in professional staff meetings whenever possible.
Meet with members of the Dwight Hall student Executive Committee as requested.
Model principled and responsible engagement for students.
Review actions of student member organizations and identify opportunities for further reflection.
Collaborate with and provide support for signature initiatives such as the Yale Prison Education Initiative and Muslim Leadership Lab as requested.
