Dwight Hall Summer Opportunities

Introduction

Dwight Hall’s support for summer opportunities originated more than fifty years ago and the values are still true today; community self-determination, students at the core, and critical reflection. Luckily, our opportunities for providing summer opportunities have continued to evolve and comprise several different targeted audiences and funding streams. However, all Fellows will:

• Be an undergraduate student of Yale University at the time of application (graduating seniors are welcome to apply)
• Propose a project/internship in collaboration with a community supervisor/mentor
• Receive financial support based on a realistic budget
• Be expected to critically reflect before, during, and after your experience
• Meaningfully contribute to your cohort of Summer Fellows

Full-Funding Opportunities

Applications for full-funding are due on March 3rd, 2025.

These applications will have strong preference for students that are working in New Haven or their home communities. Full funding is also made available for students receiving financial aid that are not eligible for the Summer Experience Award, including graduating seniors.

Supplemental-Funding Opportunities

Applications for supplemental, or part-time funding are due on May 8th, 2025.

Seen as a supplement to other funding opportunities at Yale, we’ve created a funding opportunity for students up to $2,000 in total. This has an intentionally late deadline and has a preference for students who receive the Summer Experience Award or Fellowships funding but have a total budget that exceeds the funding of those sources. We anticipate students desiring summer experiences in cities like New York City, Washington, DC, San Francisco, Chicago, and Boston, as well as New Haven. The application has not yet been released.

Payment/Financial Support

Dwight Hall pays students through the Student Employment Office and is contingent upon students engaging in required weekly reflection. In general, students typically propose summer activities that last for eight weeks. Funding is based on individual student budgets.
