Mission

The Yale Undergraduate Ethics Bowl’s mission is to provide high school students exposure to ethical discussion, philosophy, and public speaking through a structured competition. We hope to give students the skills they need to engage in meaningful discourse on ethical issues that face the world today.

Activities

US-China Education Initiative Direct Service This year, for the first time ever and in collaboration with Chinese student organizations on campus, we are planning to host a virtual ethics bowl competition between Chinese and New Haven students to promote cultural exchange and international awareness. Ethics Bowl High School Education Initiative Direct Service As part of our mission to educate our community about the importance of ethics, the Yale Undergraduate Society of Ethics works with public high school students in the New Haven/Connecticut area to educate them about ethics, ethical reasoning, and to prepare them for competition in Ethics Bowl. These initiatives are incredibly important in preparing students for competition and educating them, as ethics/philosophy education simply isn’t present in most places. Yale Ethics Society High School Fellowship Advocacy or Activism This fellowship is an opportunity for high school students to gain exposure to the world of ethics and philosophy, through a series of virtual masterclasses with students from the Yale Undergraduate Ethics Society. These classes will culminate in an in-person visit to Yale, where students will have the opportunity to meet Yale philosophy professors, graduate students, and explore campus. Students from underrepresented backgrounds or who live in New Haven are encouraged to apply. YUSE High School Fellowship Social/Cultural/Team-Building That is why, starting in Spring 2024, YUSE began the YUSE Highschool Fellowship. The fellowship consists of virtual sessions involving discussions with other fellows and Yale students on various ethical philosophies and dilemmas, and an in-person one day symposium on Yale’s campus. The symposium centers around a discussion with a Yale professor as guest speaker, and also includes group bonding activities between fellows, a tour of campus, and time to chat with Yale Ethics Society members about philosophy, college, or anything of the like. YUSE Ethics Invitational Social/Cultural/Team-Building This invitational focuses on problem-solving teamed with ethical discourse, in order to maximize accessibility to the competition while also promoting diverse perspectives. This year it will be open to American high schools and international high schools
