Who are we?
Amnesty International, as an organization deeply committed to upholding the principles of human rights, dedicates itself to a multifaceted mission. Our overarching goal is to conduct rigorous research and undertake decisive actions aimed at preventing and ultimately ending grave abuses against human rights worldwide. We believe in the inherent dignity and worth of every individual, and it is this conviction that propels our tireless efforts.
Our work extends across the globe, with a resolute focus on protecting individuals wherever justice, freedom, truth, and dignity are egregiously denied. Through a combination of advocacy, awareness-raising, and grassroots activism, we seek to be a formidable force for positive change. Informal Schools: Education in Flood Prone Regions Social/Cultural/Team-Building How do you learn when the classroom is underwater? On Friday, October 10, at 3:00 PM EST, join Yale Amnesty International at MENACC (305 Crown St.) for a conversation with Mohammed Rezwan, the architect behind Bangladesh?s world-renowned floating schools. As founder and executive director of Shidhulai Swanirvar Sangstha, Rezwan has spent over two decades pioneering solar-powered floating classrooms that ensure children?s education continues during seasonal floods. His initiatives extend beyond schools to include floating farms, clinics, and training centers, providing flood-prone communities with tools for resilience and independence. Rezwan?s innovations have benefited more than 800,000 people in Bangladesh and have been replicated in eight countries across Asia and Africa. Recognized internationally with awards from the United Nations and featured in outlets like The Washington Post, The Independent, and the Smithsonian Design Museum, his work demonstrates how local solutions can address global challenges in education and climate resilience. Amnesty at Yale with Kristine Beckerle, Deputy Regional Director, Amnesty MENA: HR in Yemen Social/Cultural/Team-Building Amnesty International at Yale, in collaboration with the MENA Cultural Center, is honored to host Kristine Beckerle, Deputy Regional Director and Beirut Office Director for Amnesty International?s Middle East and North Africa Regional Office, for a timely conversation on human rights abuses in Yemen and the broader regional context. Drawing from years of on-the-ground research, advocacy, and documentation, Beckerle will speak to the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Yemen, patterns of violations by state and non-state actors, and the challenges of accountability in protracted conflict. This event will provide students with a deeper understanding of Amnesty International?s investigative work, the mechanisms used to document abuses, and the role of global advocacy in advancing human rights. We invite students, faculty, and community members to join us for an informed and urgent dialogue on Yemen, accountability, and the future of human rights in the region.
