This is a Dwight Hall Volunteer Coordinator position leading a variety of regularly occurring and one-time service opportunities for Dwight Hall in collaboration with community partners. 

Dwight Hall aims to get as many members of the Yale community involved in public service as possible. One of the ways that we do this is to work with local organizations to offer a variety of low-commitment volunteering opportunities. This year we are specifically looking to develop new recurring opportunities on Fridays and Saturdays. We also want to be responsive to community requests for support for special events which often occur on these same days.  

Responsibilities include:

– In collaboration with Dwight Hall staff and in response to community need, identify volunteer opportunities in New Haven and coordinate with partner organizations to plan service events. 

– Recruit volunteers by reaching out to a maximum of students (via residential colleges, student organizations, academic departments, professors, friends, classmates, etc.) and using a variety of methods (emails, flyers, posters, social media, canvasing, etc.) to identify energized and motivated volunteers for Friday and Saturday opportunities 

– Answer questions and concerns of potential volunteers, screen candidates for availability, interest, and ability to volunteer 

– Support identified individuals through Dwight Hall’s volunteer onboarding process including completion of all required trainings 

– Attend each service event and lead the group of volunteers on-site. This will often include coordination of transportation. 

– Ensure that all events are added to YaleConnect and use the platform to track attendance  

– Submit weekly reflections and keep Dwight Hall staff informed about program activities and progress 

– Troubleshoot any problems that may arise 

Job Requirements

– Availability and willingness to commit to weekend service activities.  

– Good organizational and communication skills 

– High energy, outgoing personality, ability to connect with and motivate other students 

– Ability to problem solve 

Our ideal candidate will have: 

– Federal Work Study eligibility  

– Previous volunteer experience 

– Valid driver’s license and willingness to drive around New Haven and in surrounding towns as needed 

Hours: 0-8/week

Hourly Rate: $17.00/hr
