Looking-Glass Project

Our Mission:

With the Looking-Glass Project (LGP), we wish to work with patient families as mirrors to look back at the lives of our Buddies in celebration of their rich life history. The narratives that the students craft in partnership with the patient families will help preserve the memory of beloved family members, allow healthcare workers at the facilities to form deeper connections with their patients, and help students gain a deeper insight into the humanity behind the illness they so frequently see in their visits with Alzheimer's Buddies.

Our Activities:

The Looking Glass Project Recap Meeting Direct Service After all of our members have finished their narratives we will host a reflection meeting in which they can talk about their experiences with their respective nursing homes and patients. This will allow us to tweak our program as necessary by incorporating member feedback. The Looking Glass Project Info Session Direct Service The Looking Glass Project used to be a subset of Alzheimer's Buddies, but this year we established ourselves as an independent student organization! This first informational session will serve to inform new and old participants of The Looking Glass Project of our plans for the rest of this semester as we start volunteering with new nursing homes! The Looking Glass Project Board Bonding Direct Service This year is the first time that our club has an established board and we would love to get together off campus for a bit of officer bonding! The Looking Glass Project Mid Semester Check In Direct Service In order to ensure that our members are successfully completing their narratives on a reasonable time line we will hold a mid semester check in. Members will be encouraged to voice their concerns and ask for any advice that they deem necessary. The Looking Glass Project Study Break Direct Service In order to foster a community and a collaborative environment for our members we will host a study break in which students are free to come and work on their narratives in a shared space. The Looking Glass Project Site Visits Direct Service Since we are still in the process of establishing ourselves we still need to go visit various nursing homes in order to talk to their volunteer facilities and encourage patients to sign up for narratives.
