This is a Dwight Hall Volunteer Coordinator position supporting the Monk Youth Jazz and STEAM Collective (MJC). 

Monk Youth Jazz and STEAM Collective (MJC) is a K-8 music and STEAM driven college and career readiness program that runs Monday-Friday from 3-5:30pm at the Dixwell-Yale University Community Learning Center (101 Ashmun St., New Haven, CT 06511). MJC seeks Yale student volunteers for their after-school program. Dwight Hall has partnered with MJC to identify and support a Volunteer Coordinator who will assist MJC in meeting their goals. 

Responsibilities include:

– Recruit volunteers by reaching out to a maximum number of appropriately viable students (via residential colleges, student organizations, academic departments, professors, friends, classmates, etc.) and using a variety of methods (emails, flyers, posters, social media, canvasing, etc.) to identify energized and motivated volunteers 

– Screen Yale students for availability, interest, and ability to volunteer and answer questions and concerns of potential volunteers 

– Support identified students through Dwight Hall’s volunteer onboarding process including required trainings 

– Coordinate schedules with volunteers and MJC 

– Spend at least 2 days working on-site at MJC with volunteers (This could be as simple as being present and observing the other volunteers, or it could be teaching a class or a skill to the MJC participants.) 

– Submit weekly reflections and keep Dwight Hall staff informed about program activities and progress 

– Troubleshoot any problems that may arise

– Good organizational and communication skills 

– High energy, outgoing personality, ability to connect with and motivate other students 

– Ability to problem solve 

– Reliability, ability to stick to a set weekly schedule even during busy times of the year 

Our ideal candidate will have: 

– Federal Work Study eligibility 

– Previous experience working or volunteering with children

Hours: 0-8/week

Hourly Rate: $17.00/hr
