Activities

Community Craft Projects Direct Service Mecha is working with ULA, Shoreline Indivisible, and Graduate students to create crafts together to build community and show solidarity with one another. We would like to be able to join together to expand and build long lasting relationships with new Haven residents. We would like to also encourage passerbys and neighbors to join our efforts. Sueños Reception Direct Service Every year, Mecha gives two or three $500 scholarships to benefit select New Haven high school seniors. This reception will be an event in which we present the scholarships to the recipients and celebrate their achievements through community and conversation. Adelante Mentorship Program Direct Service Mecha is teaming up with local New Haven schools to provide tutoring. We would like to host a welcome event to introduce the club to local students and parents who have signed up for mentoring, allowing students to meet the mentors as well! The meeting is later around dinner time, so we would like to provide some food for families and students during the meeting, for giving us this their time and so they feel welcomed. Conexiones Direct Service Conexiones is a way that Mecha reaches out to the community through newsletters, workshops, and visits to local entities like businesses, schools, and churches. Currently, Conexiones is trying to provide the greater New Haven community with tools and resources for the undocumented community like creating Red Cards and Red Folders during these unprecedented times. Sueños Scholarship Direct Service We are holding an event to honor high school senior recipients of our Adelante scholarship, inviting the winners and their families to join us to present their awards. This is a special event to honor and celebrate the hard work of our elected recipients. We want to make sure that we go above and beyond for these students. We want to treat our students with food to further make the celebration special and something families can look forward to. This is something that the students have worked very hard on and have been long awaiting this award, so we want to make it worthwhile. Conexiones Advocacy or Activism Conexiones is an opportunity for Yale students to get in touch with the greater New Haven Community by serving as a space for community members to learn of the community resources available to them. Conexiones serves as a “connection” between community members and resources. Sueños Scholarship Fundraising This scholarship serves to empower the undocumented community in New Haven and make higher education more accessible for them.
