Activities
Bouchet Mentorship Program Direct Service The Bouchet Mentorship program is a yearly initiative run by Yale’s Black Men’s Union. Every Friday, we visit Conte West Hills Magnet School to mentor and tutor the students, providing them with role models who look like them while motivating them to aim high and work hard to achieve great things. Bouchet Mentoring Program Direct Service Our mission is to give back to the New Haven community by fostering strong, supportive relationships between Black men at Yale College and young men of color in our community. Every week, we mentor 8th graders at Conte West Hill School, teaching life lessons, assisting with high school applications, and giving them the opportunity to explore Yale College, where we emphasize the importance of representation. Our program features engaging activities such as Group Check-Ins, Life Lessons, and our Real-World Career Series, all designed to inspire and support our mentees as they navigate the challenges of adolescence and pursue their dreams. Yale Black Men’s Union Bouchet Mentorship Program Direct Service Every Friday, members of the Black Men’s Union mentor and tutor 8th grade boys at Conte West Hills Magnet School on Chapel Street. Our signature component of the program is our spotlight series, where mentors share the story of how they got to Yale and give advice and words of encouragement to the young men. Bouchet Mentorship Program Direct Service To any and all Black men, come join the Bouchet Mentorship Program! Every Friday, we visit a local school to mentor and tutor the students, providing them with role models who look like them while motivating them to aim high and work hard to achieve great things. It is a deeply rewarding experience and is a great way to grow closer with other BMU members. All Black men are welcome! Charity Challenge Fundraising Every year, the Black Men’s Union hosts an event to raise money for a charity of our choice. While the bulk of Charity Challenge occurs during the spring semester, we want to host a smaller, simpler fundraising event in the fall semester to get momentum going. Charity Challenge Fundraising The Black Men’s Union is raising money for Integrated Refugee & Immigrant Services (IRIS) as a part of their yearly “Charity Challenge” initiative. We are hosting a 3v3 basketball tournament at Payne Whitney Gym. There will be a fee to play, a concession stand, and QR codes posted around the area, all sending money directly to IRIS. People will sign up as teams to play, and we will create a tournament bracket, running games continuously until we arrive at the championship game. Yale Black Men’s Union Charity Challenge Fundraising Every year we do a media campaign and tabling campaign to raise funds for a charity of choice.
