Our Mission:

The Yale Interpretation Network (YIN) provides pro-bono interpretation and translation services to bridge the gap between Limited English Proficient community members and social services. We believe that breaking down language barriers is necessary for a strong, cohesive community.

Our Activities:

Operational Expenses Direct Service We pay a number of necessary subscriptions that are integral to our organization mission. These expenses include a yearly subscription to MailChimp, through which we send all our community partners' translation/interpretation requests to our panlist of over 1000; AirTable, where we keep detailed records about our direct services; as well as SquareSpace, through which we host our website where community partners from across the nation are able to contact us and request our services. Interpretation Training for New Members Direct Service We will be holding a training session for new members to learn what translation and interpretation are, how to effectively translate/interpret, how to be culturally and linguistically sensitive, how to maintain confidentiality, etc. Finals Study Break Advocacy or Activism We will be doing an end of semester celebration for our members and go over our translation/interpretation achievements from throughout the semester. Mid-Term Study Break Advocacy or Activism We will be celebrating our interpreters of the month around November, which incentivizes more participation and translation for our community partners. We will also be catering food as a thank-you for our translators and interpreters.

Student Leaders:

How others get involved:

Interested volunteers can email us at yale.interpretation.network@gmail.com. They will then be put through a virtual training and be added to our network if their self-evaluated language skills are up to the level we need to provide our services.
