Partners In Health (PIH) Engage mobilizes students to stand up for the global right to health through advocacy, fundraising, community building, and education. PIH collaborates with national governments to strengthen public health systems and expand access to care.
Our Activities:
Global Health Professor Panel with YSPH
Our global health professor panel will be in partnership with experts at the Yale School of Public Health. We look forward to inviting professors to share their work and opinions on global health efforts at Yale and abroad.
First Informational Meeting
New members will receive an overview of PIH Engage, goals for the semester, our alignment with the overall network, some plans for this year, and leadership roles.
PIH Engage: Global Day of Action
Bending the Arc Screening. Bending the Arc tells the story of Dr. Paul Farmer’s vision to begin a movement that would change global health forever.
Crash Course Party
The PIH Engage Crash Course provides a comprehensive curriculum to students on global health advocacy and action. Topics range from DEI to global citizenship.
Harvard-Yale Event
An event to connect students from our Yale PIH Engage chapter with students from the Harvard chapter. Conversations at this event will focus on strategizing ways to further each chapter’s impact both locally and abroad.
Letter to the Editor Write-In
Advocacy is a significant component of our mission as a chapter. The letter to editor write-in is one of the many advoacy events that will enable students to learn about global health efforts and eduate the Yale and New Haven communities. The write-in will also provide students guidance on how to publish their opinon in a public forum
Advocacy Call-a-thon
Through a call-a-thon, we will actively reach out to Members of Congress Offices, with the intention of scheduling in-person meetings with them. This event is the perfect stepping-stone after our email-writing session which we held in the fall.
Global Health “Speed Dating”
This event falls under our Education & Team Building committee, and we hope to foster a sense of bonding and community within our chapter and the greater Yale community.
Workshop with alumna Anita Wu (‘03, ‘06 JD)
Ms. Wu will coach us on oral advocacy, community-building, fundraising, etc., all areas of expertise. We would love to hold this workshop with other PIH Engage Chapters in the area.
Meeting with Representative DeLauro
We look forward to meeting with Representative DeLauro in the New Haven office to advocate for legislation including the Community Healthcare Workers Act as well as the Paul Farmer Memorial Resolution
Giving Tuesday Fundraising
Giving Tuesday is a national campaign aimed at grassroots fundraising. Chapter members will have the opprotunity to reach out to their local communities and share information about supporting global health.
Global Health & Cookies: Cross Campus Bake Sale
Global Health and Cookies will be a fun event that provides both an opportunity for fundraising and education. We are excited to share the importance of the right to global health with fellow students and community members.
Valentine’s Day Candy Gram Fundraiser
We will fundraise in line with PIHE’s campaign for this year, which is supporting the Maternal Center of Excellence (MCOE) in Sierra Leone. To execute this fundraiser, we will encourage Yale community members to send “candy grams” to their friends and peers, charging them a few dollars for this service. All of the proceeds will go toward the MCOE.
Fun Run for the Maternal Health Center of Excellence
This Fun Run will hopefully receive much enthusiasm, as it will take place in the spring once the weather has improvd! We hope to raise money for the Maternal Center of Excellence. We plan to charge $20 per race participant.
Pieing Fundraiser
A volunteer will agree to be the “target” and Yale community members will have the chance to pay $4 to “pie” the target. All proceeds will go to the Maternal Center of Excellence.
