Why Us? Understanding Crisis, Faith, and Action: A Sudan-Centered Discussion w/ Sh. Ammar Al-Shukry Advocacy or Activism This one-day conference, in collaboration with the Muslim Students Association (MSA), aims to explore the ongoing crisis in Sudan through an Islamic lens. With Sheikh Ammar Al-Shukry as the keynote speaker, the event will address deep theological and existential questions: Why do these crises disproportionately impact Muslims? Does it feel like divine punishment, or is there a greater wisdom? What is the power of dua (supplication) in times of hardship? Beyond the discussion, this event serves as a platform for raising awareness and mobilizing support for Sudan. Attendees will learn about the war?s impact and tangible ways to help, including a fundraising initiative supporting Sadaqat and the Sudanese American Physicians Association (SAPA). Additionally, participants can sign an open letter calling for academic institutions to boycott the UAE, in response to the UAE?s involvement in Sudan?s counter-revolutionary war and expansionist policies in the Horn of Africa. With an expected turnout of 200+ attendees, this gathering will provide both spiritual insight and actionable steps toward advocacy and humanitarian aid. Community Advocay Hour Advocacy or Activism A collective letter-writing session to elected representatives advocating for legislative action on Sudan. This event highlights the urgent need to protect Sudanese people and refugees, and every participant?s voice can directly influence the legislation being considered. We encourage everyone to join us in making an impact. There will be food! Diversify Your Advocacy: Highlighting Sudan + Letter Writing to Congress Advocacy or Activism This event will raise awareness about the humanitarian crisis in Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo through an advocacy-focused speaker event. Participants will learn about the current situation in both regions and engage in letter writing to Congress, urging policy change and action. The event will also feature interactive giveaways, including pins, bracelets, and keychain decorations, to foster solidarity. Co-hosted with the Congolese Student Association, this initiative aims to educate and empower students to become advocates for justice on a global scale. Charity Iftar for Sudan Fundraising Join us as we come together in the spirit of generosity and solidarity to support the people of Sudan. As we enter the final 10 nights of Ramadan, this iftar gathering serves as both a moment of reflection and a call to action. Since April 15, 2023, Sudan has been in the grips of a devastating conflict, displacing over 12 million people?8.8 million internally and 3.3 million as refugees in neighboring countries. The humanitarian toll continues to grow, with over 28,000 lives lost and nearly 25 million in need of urgent aid. Families have been torn apart, basic necessities are scarce, and access to healthcare and food remains severely limited. At this iftar, we will share a meal, raise awareness about the ongoing crisis, and mobilize resources to provide direct relief to those affected. Speakers will provide insight into the situation on the ground, the urgent needs of displaced communities, and how our collective efforts can make a tangible impact. Funds raised during this event will go toward humanitarian aid organizations actively providing food, medical assistance, and essential supplies to those most in need. Attendees will have the opportunity to donate, learn about the crisis, and explore ways to stay engaged in supporting Sudan beyond this event. All are welcome?whether you are fasting or not. Your presence and support, no matter how big or small, can bring hope and relief to those enduring unimaginable hardship.
