Affiliate Actions

As of Fall 2024, groups that are not affiliated with Dwight Hall may access resources within Dwight Hall for public service and social justice activities.

Qualifying

Affiliate actions are designed for groups that do not have a core mission of service, but take part in service activities that need the support of Dwight Hall resources. Successful actions will have:

1) Significant breadth and/or depth of impact for the target population you intend to serve,

2) A well thought-out plan of action that respects the knowledge of community experts,

3) An evaluation plan for assessing the success of your project.

Groups that have a core mission of service are encouraged to apply for membership instead of affiliate actions to receive priority access to resources and more funding.

Process

Groups may apply to register affiliate actions at any time during the semester using this application. If the membership team approves your activity as a public service or social justice action, each of your resource requests will be assessed individually by a committee member. During the academic year, you should expect to hear back about your resource request status about a week after submission. Deadlines to apply for funding are the same as member groups at the start of the semester.

At the end of the semester, affiliate action leaders will participate in a review process to evaluate the success of their activity.

Example: Your sorority wants to volunteer as literacy tutors at New Haven Reads every week and hold a fundraiser at the end of the semester. You submit the application registering your first action, “NHR Weekly Tutoring,” and request bus passes to get to the site, as well as printing access to print take-home exercises. You submit the form again to register the second action, “NHR Fundraiser,” and request to use a room in Dwight Hall to host the event and car access to pick up your materials. After submission, you hear back about the status of your actions as they are approved for each resource.
