MEChA (Movimiento Estudiantil Chicano de Aztl n) de Yale

Our Mission:

MEChA de Yale is composed of students on campus who are politically conscious and sensitive to the issues affecting underrepresented peoples of our communities and our nation. Our social and political activism is a direct response to the problems that affect the Chicanx/Latinx population and other communities of color locally, nationally and globally.

Our Activities:

Conexiones Direct Service Conexiones is MEChA’s mentorship program for Latinx high school students in the New Haven area currently in development. This program pairs Latinx High School students with Yale Latinx students, in which mentees receive one on one mentoring, as well as attend group sessions twice a month. These group sessions will be centered on different themes aimed at empowering the high school students, helping them with college access, and developing their social and political consciousness. I stand with immigrants day of action Advocacy, or Activism This event will serve to foster an open space where immigrants in the Yale community can come speak their stories and spread awareness of the immigrant stories and populations that exist at Yale. This serves to add a face to immigrants thus making the crimes against immigrants more personal to the Yale community. This is a small action in a large collegiate movement being coordinated by Sueños Scholarship Fundraising Three $750 scholarship(s) intended for undocumented students with or without DACA in the greater New Haven area and surrounding cities.
